Information Production and Management in Digital Environments

The current unit aims at analyzing the new tools and skills required in the contemporary digital environment. Based on the principles of audiovisual production and information circulation within the digital environments, the current unit seeks to assess the technological changes affecting journalism. Through the lectures an examination of new digital tools will take place, as well as an approach of the new technologies implemented in online research and publication (metadata, search engines, cloud storage etc.) The current module aims at approaching new ways of information dissemination that have emerged in the online environment (citizen journalism, information dissemination in social media, online databases, content aggregators etc.)

Media Monitoring teaches the research value and the various functions of monitoring media content (for politics, image making of people and various institutions), its relationship to other forms of media research, its spread in Greece and the rest of the world. At the same time students are being trained to organize, conduct and critically evaluate the results of media monitoring. More specifically, they are being trained in media monitoring theory, the creation of research protocols, data entry and the analysis and presentation of the research data.
