Diagnosis and Assessment in Speech and Language Pathology Melpomeni (Melina) Nisioti - Undergraduate - (A-) Speech Language Therapy, TEI of Epirus In this course, students come accustomed with the process of assessment, detection and diagnosis in children and adults with communication disorders. In particular, the course introduces students to the evaluation models (Medical / Rationale model description-development model, Systemic-Collective model) and prepare them in the methodology of the evaluation and assessment of a large number of communication disorders, such as disorders of articulation and phonology , developmental language disorders, learning disabilities, dysrhythmia speech, voice disorders, hearing, adult acquired neurogenic disorders (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria). Reference is made to the alternative / informal assessment as well as a multitude of diagnostic test tools-weighted or not adapted to the Greek reality and those used internationally.
Voice Disorders Melpomeni (Melina) Nisiotis - Undergraduate - (A-) Speech Language Therapy, TEI of Epirus In this course, students come along with the concepts of prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention in voice disorders. Review of the anatomy and physiology of the larynx and respiratory system is also done. Then, students are introduced to methods of speech and language assessment of respiration and the voice parameters (frequency, intensity, duration, resonance) and internationally applied diagnostic test evaluation of the voice characteristics. They also introduced to the classification of voice disorders based on etiology (nonorganic / organic) and described in detail a large number of voice disorders in each category (functional, psychogenic, organic, neurogenic, endocrinologic) and cases of laryngectomy. It is also examined treatment methods of voice rehabilitation in those patients, depending on the type of disorder, and the patient's age (children, adults). Interdisciplinary approach / intervention (ENT, and speech language pathologist) in voice disordered patient with help of new technologies, mechanical and clinical protocols.
Terminology in Speech language Pathology Melpomeni (Melina) Nisioti - Undergraduate - (A-) Speech and Language Therapy, TEI of Epirus This course is a basic introduction to students in English terminology in relation to the discipline of Speech Pathology. For the first time will be rendition of English terms to Greek that are related to the diagnostic process and the therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation to children and adults with communication disorders.
Intervention and Treatment in Speech and Language Pathology Melpomeni (Melina) Nisiotis - Undergraduate - (A-) Speech language Therapy, TEI of Epirus In this course students come first in contact with the process of therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation to children and adults with communication disorders. In particular, the course introduces students to the methods of analysis of the evaluation/diagnosis and the formulation of goal setting and organization of the plan of slt intervention, a large number of speech and language disorders, such as articulatory and phonological disorders, developmental language disorders, learning disabilities, fluency disorders, voice disorders, hearing, swallowing the adult acquired neurogenic disorders (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria). Reference is made to basic therapeutic methods in clinical and counseling skills of the therapist (therapist-patient relationships and clinical secrecy). Also, refer to multidisciplinary approach / intervention to patients and holistic rehabilitation method. Also it is described how to write the evaluation report and the progress of the patient (SOAP).

Fluency Disorders – Stuttering Melpomeni (Melina) Nisioti - Undergraduate - (A-) Speech Language Therapy, TEI of Epirus This course aims to introduce students to the study of the fluency disorders with emphasis on stuttering. Students will have a comprehensive understanding of theoretical approaches of fluency mechanism and differentiation and the boundary between people with normal dysrhythmias. Also the role that heredity, developmental and environmental effects on stuttering behavior. Final aim of the course is students to understand the importance of managing fluency disorders based on scientific evidence (evidence based clinical practice).
