Physical Chemistry 2 - Laboratoy

The first of a series of 2 required laboratory courses in Physical Chemistry which is based on Thermodynamics.

Objectives

Familiarization with particular phenomena, data acquisition and processing methods, graphical representation of data and extraction of physico-chemical properties of pure substances and mixtures.

Prerequisites

Curriculum of Physical Chemistry 1, basic knowledge of Physics (Mechanics, gases, units, prefixes, dimensions). Basic arithmetic, logarithms, differentiation, integration.

Syllabus

Thermodynamic properties of gases (Joule-Thompson coefficient). Phase equilibria (mutual solubility of liquids, distribution coefficient, enthalpy of vaporization). Interphase equilibria (surface tension of liquids, physisorption). Solutions (partial molar volume, molar mass determination through ebullioscopy), boiling point vs. composition diagrams), thermochemistry (heat of reaction)
