Sociology of technology and culture

Generally in this course, the technological phenomenon is being discussed as the object of sociology; it is referred to theoretical thinkers and the mechanics of tradition and modernism. We focus on globalization issues and the ecological - natural crisis that modern society is experiencing. In the same framework, the relation between technology and globalization is being discussed. Specific issues of "Sociology of Science and Technology" are included, such as the technology being the component of modernism, technocracy, etc. Approaches of identity and multicultural urban cities issues as well as Eric Hobsbawm's point of view about globalization of information and knowledge are being examined. This course focuses on the sociology of technology and the multiple conceptualization of the technological phenomenon. We, thus, study the impact of technology on social, ethical, political and cultural dimensions of the world. We examine the meanings of technology and culture. We also study the influence of technology on the environment in order to understand and evaluate the technological effects. We aim to describe the optic, tactile and of course the musical experience that accompany several aspects of the technological and mathematical project, even taking into consideration the psychologists' opinion about its meaning.

Objectives

We aim to describe the optic, tactile and of course the musical experience that accompany several aspects of the technological and mathematical project, even taking into consideration the psychologists' opinion about its meaning. The study of technology in the light of the construction theory and the political economy has made important contributions with its intuitions. These approaches are often connected to a denial for the recognition of the personal or imaginative way that we respond to technology and this causes substantial reduction in the interpretation spectrum concerning the way we experience the innovations, the response of the consumers and the education of technology students.
