Business Organization and Management


The course's aim is the understanding of the role, forms, organizational structures, functions, development, mode of administration and of the determinants of the performance of key economic and productive institution: the enterprise. Within the course, the students, working in two membered groups, make site visit to a selected business to make recording and charting its features, activities, key financial and other figures. In addition, they invited some executives from the fields of business in order to present specific issues related to their experience.


Objectives

Students at the end of the course should: • Understand the concept of the production and business systems and the operation and behavior of organizations. • Realize the role and mission of the administration and the development of the administrative function. • Be familiar with the environment of the company and know its functions. • Understand the need to develop innovation in a company. • Know the financial operation of a business. • Report the strategy, structures and business performance.

Syllabus

The world of organizations: Understanding the function and behavior of organizations. Modern forms of organization. Organisational structures. The modern management: The role and mission of the administration and the development of administrative and management theories. The nature of administrative work and roles of directors. Administrative Structures. The culture and management style. Management and leadership. Management and Entrepreneurship. The institution of the business: The nature, the evolution and growth of the business. Business types. The theory of the business. Alternative considerations of modern business (as input-output system, as a living organism, as a resource and competence system). The functions of the business: The business processes (production, research and development, marketing and selling, human resources management, financial management, procurement management, knowledge management). Business development and innovation. The use of information technologies and epikoinonionsti administrative function. Strategy, Structure and Performance of business: mission and objectives of the business. The strategic and organizational design of the company. The decision-making process. Measuring business performance. Methods and design tools and analysis of business: Field Surveys, performance indicators and benchmarking, case studies, site visits.
