Identifying situations that require first aid from non-healthcare-professional caregivers (what, when and how to do and what not to do), recognizing the patient as a whole and simultaneously a part of the natural and social environment, and protecting themselves.
The students, after completion of the course, should be able to: • accurately identify situations that require first aid (see Contents) • properly face these situations as non-healthcare-professional caregivers • benefit the patient as a whole, particularly taking care not to worsen its situation • properly manage complex situations (eg many wounded, mass disasters, etc.) • properly manage the environment (relatives, friends, acquaintances, vehicle traffic, signs etc) • recognize situations that require referral to health professionals and health services, and know when and how to do it • recognize their limitations, which never exceed • protect their own health and physical integrity.
There are no prerequisites, no prior knowledge. It is required to study the material of the day BEFORE class. In class there will be discussion and resolution of queries of students, whose active participation will also be graded.
Basic principles of first aid. Traffic accidents. Contusion, Wounds, Bleeding. Animal bites. Allergies. Burns, Heat, Frostbite. Musculoskeletal injuries. Poisonings. Angina, Myocardial Infarction. Fainting situations. Electrocution. Epilepsy. Choking. Suffocation. Cardiorespiratory resuscitation (CRP).
