Language Development


The course is basic for future speech pathologists. This course aims to introduce students to the basic concepts of language and language development. Analyze the different models that prevailed on the language development and conquest of a language code for understanding later language disorders may arise from childhood to adulthood.


Objectives

Have knowledge to describe of language and language development. Be aware and critically analyze the different learning theories. To accustom with language evolution stages in all its levels. To diliver basic and critical features of language development in typical children. Be able distinguish deviations from normal language development.

No pre-requisite knowledge needed.

Introduction Language and oral communication - Conceptual clarifications Theories of learning and language /translation model of language development [Genetic (Nativist) model - Module (Cognitive) model - Behavioral (Behavioral) model - information processing model (Information processing) - Social Interaction Model (Social interactionism)] Phonetic - phonological development. Development of the grammatical system. Development of the semantic field. Vocabulary Develop of communication skills. Basic and critical features of speech development in typically developing children.
