Byzantine History ΙΙ (1081-1453)


The course focuses on the political history of the later Byzantine period, on ecclesiastical controversies with political implications, on the socio-economic structures and the administrative system. Emphasis is given on the presentation of the relevant primary sources and the bibliography. The objective of the course is the understanding of the political-military situation, the social reality and the multiple factors which led progressively to the decline of the Byzantine empire.
