City Planning Design 1

The aim of the course is the approach of the theoretical, technical and methodological issues that are confronted in the Urban Planning process and the application of the newest subjects on spatial planning. The course focuses on the composition of analytical planning methods concerning urban programming and housing development of urban areas. Based on the theoretical, methodological and technical analysis approaches of urban areas, the course attempts the application of an urban approach in the form of urban planning.

Objectives

The course is structured by two parts a..the theoretical part that is about Planning procedure and the kinds/hierarchy of urban plans. Management of urban indicators and standards The approaches in the city’s morphology and architecture (typological types of urban fabric elements, spatial planning evolution e,tc.) The investigation of planning parameters for sustainable cities The role of innovation for the creation of smart cities. Cities marketing. The role of spatial and social parameters that lead to today’s cities. Case studies of urban plans in national and international level. b. The project of the course is the urban planning of a new city that will include the residence, working places and all the necessary infrastructures for 10.000 residents. Students will plan in one of the propsed areas a new city without the limitations of the existing ownership status but based on the existing geomorphological relief, existing roads, landscape and other physical parameters.
