RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES

The course covers the basic terms regarding energy and the conversion of renewable energy resources for the production of heat, electricity and biofuels. It delves into the estimation of the renewable energy potential, the available technology, the economics of the systems and the environmental consequences. The basic forms of renewable energy sources covered include solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, hydraulic energy and biomass.

Objectives

The familiarisation of the student with the basic concepts of renewable energy resources, the estimation of the potential in a place, the selection of the suitable technology for the application at hand, the energy conversion mechanisms for the production of useful energy and the environmental impacts from the technology.
