Developmental Language Disorders


The course is focusing on developmental language disorders. Specifically, it studies disorders that occur resulting of non-acquired problems. These children do not show the expected linguistic behavior for their chronological age and vary in relation to the ground, intensity and duration. This course aims to familiarize students with the basic concepts, features and modern research trends on developmental language disorders and ways of diagnosis and treatment of language problems through speech and language intervention.


Objectives

To enlist the characteristics of developmental language disorders. To deliver growth characteristics of speech in normal children and to distinguish deviations from normal language development. Identify and analyze the data and functions of language (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics) assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the child's linguistic conquest. Identify and evaluate the impact of language skills in communication and educational children's performance. To compare and contrast the unique features of the process of language acquisition among children from different socio-cultural environments and dialects. Identify appropriate restorative / therapeutic guidelines for linguistic support and management of developmental speech and language disorders.

Introduction normal development of speech and language Conceptual clarifications developmental language disorders Processing models of speech and language Disorders content, form and use of language and their interactions. Evaluations of language disorders, and develop customized intervention programs. Detailed description and analysis of disorders of language and speech: slow in speech development. Specific language impairment in autism spectrum and mental retardation, hearing loss-deafness. Alternative communication programs (PECS, Makaton, etc)
