Voice Disorders


In this course, students come along with the concepts of prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention in voice disorders. Review of the anatomy and physiology of the larynx and respiratory system is also done. Then, students are introduced to methods of speech and language assessment of respiration and the voice parameters (frequency, intensity, duration, resonance) and internationally applied diagnostic test evaluation of the voice characteristics. They also introduced to the classification of voice disorders based on etiology (nonorganic / organic) and described in detail a large number of voice disorders in each category (functional, psychogenic, organic, neurogenic, endocrinologic) and cases of laryngectomy. It is also examined treatment methods of voice rehabilitation in those patients, depending on the type of disorder, and the patient's age (children, adults). Interdisciplinary approach / intervention (ENT, and speech language pathologist) in voice disordered patient with help of new technologies, mechanical and clinical protocols.

Evaluation of voice disorders. A thorough presentation of items of voice disorders (description, etiology, symptoms). Treatment of voice disorders (medical, and from speech language pathologist). Laryngectomy (esophageal speech rehabilitation techniques).


Prerequisites

It is good to have pre-requisite knowledge about anatomy and physiology and neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the larynx and the respiratory system.
