Diagnosis and Assessment in Speech and Language Pathology


In this course, students come accustomed with the process of assessment, detection and diagnosis in children and adults with communication disorders. In particular, the course introduces students to the evaluation models (Medical / Rationale model description-development model, Systemic-Collective model) and prepare them in the methodology of the evaluation and assessment of a large number of communication disorders, such as disorders of articulation and phonology , developmental language disorders, learning disabilities, dysrhythmia speech, voice disorders, hearing, adult acquired neurogenic disorders (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria). Reference is made to the alternative / informal assessment as well as a multitude of diagnostic test tools-weighted or not adapted to the Greek reality and those used internationally.


Objectives

Understand the terminology, principles, objectives and methods of the evaluation process. Distinguish the different diagnostic approaches to assessment / detection of communication disorders. Know the diagnostic standardized tests-therapy tools used in Greek space and internationally. Applies alternative or formal evaluation methods and analyze their effects on occasion. Analyze the results of the evaluation and records in the evaluation report.

Syllabus

Basic terminology, purpose and principles of the evaluation process, presenting theoretical evaluation and diagnostic models. Sectors (areas) and detection methods / evaluation / diagnosis. Present specific speech-language disorders in children and adults. Methods of evaluation of specific speech-language disorders. Adapting and implementing informal / formal assessment on specific types of childhood disorders and / adult population. Analysis and application of weighted / or non-diagnostic tests / tools depending on the type of communication disorder.
