Pharmaceutical Technology I


Purpose of this course is the theoretical and practical education of the students on the science of drug designing, development and production, including the drug delivery and administration systems to humans. (The aforementioned concern the syllabus covered by associate professor Avgoustakis)


Objectives

By completing this specific course, the student will have obtained a thorough view of design formulation, the basic pharmaceutical procedures about production and the processes concerning different types of formulations, as well as the quality control tests and their evaluation. The students participating at the practical exercises conducted within the academic course, are able to apply all the theoretical information of basic pharmaceutical processes and production of drug formulations in practice. Syllabus

This course includes an introduction of pharmaceutical technology and overview of the different types of formulations, and the design and development procedures of drug formulations. Drug preformat and correlation of the basic physicochemical properties of new bioactive molecules to the design of the appropriate formulations, powder technology, and an overview of basic pharmaceutical processes, such as filtering, mixing, powder size evaluation, solid size reduction, granulation, drying, sterilization and sterile manufacturing procedures, are also included.
