Telecommunications

The course addresses the following topics: Basic Signals and Systems concepts. Spectral description of Signals, Fourier Analysis, Incremental filters. Data transmission (analog, digital). Transmission of analog signals with amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), and phase modulation (PM). Pulse Code Modulation Systems, PCM, DPCM, DM. Analog carrier modulation techniques using digital signal. Digital signal transmission using ASK, PSK, FSK modulation.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course the student should: 1. Understand the basic properties of signals and systems. 2. Understand and apply the properties of the Fourier transform. 3. Understand the basic principles and concepts of analog and digital telecommunications systems. 4. Analyzes and designs communications systems at an introductory level. 5. Does the performance of telecommunication systems in relation to the complexity, the modulation type and the requirements in power and bandwidth. 6. Edit a signal using Matlab. 7. models and simulates a linear system with Simulink package Matlab.
