ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION II


Adapted physical education is a specialty course that provides the theoretical basis and practical skills that are necessary to students so as to structure and apply exercise programs for people with disabilities.


Objectives

The purpose of the course is to: Provide the theoretical basis (definitions, aetiology, characteristics ) of all disabilities described in this semester. Teach all students how to develop and apply an individualized exercise program for each disability, following a) a hollistic approach of evaluating the present level of performance of each individual with disability prior program initiation b) application of the exercise program by taking into account all necessary adaptations according to individual needs. c) post-evaluation of the exercise program and determination of future goals. Most importantly, the course aims to help students gain practice experience with people with disabilities through their systematic practicum in real working environments including rehabilitation centers, psychiatry hospitals, special schools and institutions, and disability sport teams.
