THE ANTHROPOLOGY OF THEATRE


Theater Anthropology is a sub-sector of Theatre Studies studying the descent and pre-aesthetic development of theatre. Main thematic axes of the course are: - The Genetics of the Theater - Pre-aesthetic forms of Theater - The function of paratheatrical events and rituals (with case-studies analysis of the Anastenaria, Modern Greek Folk-Rituals, the Carnival, etc.) - The basic anthropological principles of the Art of the Actor.


Objectives

The aim of the course is for the student to acquire knowledge of the basic concepts of Theater Anthropology and especially the theory of rituals. Moreover, the theory will be further understood from its application on Greek folk-rituals.


Prerequisites

Τhis course requires the successful examination of the module "Indroduction to Theatre Studies".
