Research in Teaching Mathematics and Teaching Practice


The course will focus on the research results of Area Teaching of Mathematics and the importance of these results thereof in teaching practice. It comprises A) An introduction to the complex relationship between research and practice as well as ways in which it tries to exploit the research in practice B) Study and discussion of research issues concerning learning issues in specific mathematical areas (eg geometry , algebra, analysis, proof) C) Study and discussion of research topics listed in the teaching of mathematics (eg activities, examples, interaction, learning environments) D) Design instructional interventions utilizing research results


Objectives

Students will come in contact with theoretical issues and research findings of the Teaching of Mathematics. Graduate students make weekly work (eg presentations, research papers, activities analysis), will design, implement and evaluate a teaching intervention (group) that utilize research results into an area and deliver work on it . They will also give written exam.
