Power Electronics II (Open Course)


1) DC-DC Converters a) Circuit analysis of Buck (step-down), Boost (step-up) and Buck/Boost (step-down/step-up) converters in CCM, DCM and BCM modes with power MOSFETS, extraction of voltage and current waveforms. b) Circuit analysis of step-down thyristor converters (Chopper), improved chopper topologies, extraction of voltage and current waveforms, speed and torque control of DC Machines. c) Energy recovery during the braking of a DC Machine 2) DC-AC Converters (Inverters) a) Voltage source and current source inverters b) Single-phase transistor inverters, circuit analysis and extraction of waveforms with resistive, resistive-inductive and inductive load, basic and advanced PWM techniques (SPWM,HIPWM etc), Harmonic analysis c) Single-phase thyristor inverters, circuit analysis and extraction of waveforms with resistive and resistive-inductive load, improved topologies d) Three-phase transistor inverters, circuit analysis and waveforms extraction with resistive, resistive-inductive and inductive load, basic and advanced PWM techniques (SPWM,HIPWM etc), Harmonic analysis e) Three-phase thyristor inverters, basic topologies f) Speed and torque control of Asynchronous and Synchronous Machines with power converters

Comprehension of basic and advanced DC-DC Converter topologies, comprehension of inverters and advanced PWM techniques
