Bioinformatics


Working with biomedical and biological databases, analyzing DNA and protein sequences, building phylogenetic trees, designing and analyzing genetic networks, working with bioinformatics tools and packages


Objectives

Familiarize students with the contents of Bioinformatics, concepts, tools and application possibilities that may have in biological problems. Also, the acquisition of specific skills in the use of databases and software packages widely-used on this field.

Computational Approaches to Biological Processes: Cellular Structures, Genome Decoding and Systematic Analysis, Gene Regulation, Phylogeny, Clinical and Biological Databases Computational Applications: Managing and Analyzing DNA sequences, Sequence Alignment, Building Phylogenetic Trees, Biological Structure Analysis and Prediction, Gene Network Analysis Computational Techniques: Stochastic Framework, Hidden Markov Models, Artificial Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms
