The course is intended to examine Euripides’ dramatic technique, his style and his views concerning the gods.
The aim of the course is to reinforce the students’ critical thinking. The objectives of the course are the familiarization of students with the language and dramatic technique of Euripides.

Introduction to the theatrical conventions of Ancient Greek Tragedy. Introduction to Euripides’ dramatic work (use of ancient testimonies). The course involves a process of comparison of several key translations through an analysis of the translators’ choices in specific points of the text in order to reinforce the students’ critical thinking. Special attention will be given to issues of stage directions, scenic/dramatic/theatrical space, translation theory and practice, and dionysiac religion.
