Surface Treatment - Finish Furniture


The course aims for the students to deepen their knowledge on the technology of coatings and the relationship of the coatings on wood and other materials. An additional goal is for them to develop their imagination for new wood finishing techniques.


Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:   understand the indirect and direct purposes of finishing wood.  to know the properties of wood that affect the handling of the finish.  understand how sanding wood prior to painting and varnish as well as grinding machines to be used.  to know the basic types of coatings (preservatives, ydrapothitikes substances dopants colors, varnishes, paints, Fire-resistant coatings).  to understand the methods of applying paints and varnishes wood, ways of formation of the film and Techniques.  to know the impact of organic coatings on public health and the environment, and worker protection measures.

General prerequisite knowledge.
