“Applied Mathematics for Engineers” covers the fundamentals of signal and system analysis, focusing on representations of continuous-time and discrete-time signals (Fourier series and transforms, Laplace and Z transforms) and representations of linear, time-invariant systems (difference and differential equations, poles and zeros, convolution, impulse and step responses, frequency responses). Applications are drawn from communications, and signal analysis and processing.
The course aims to give basic knowledge of mathematics and applied mathematics necessary for many specialization options, including telecommunication systems, signal/voice/images/video processing, computer vision and robotics. The course focuses on fundamental knowledge from the point of view of its application, and uses the programming environment MATLAB for the workshops.
