Ancient Greek Drama: Euripides


Through this course we present the works of Euripides, their place in the history of ancient Greek literature, the historical and social context in which they developed. We study in particular Medea (431 B.C.) with an emphasis to the ancient Greek text, grammar and syntax. Verses 1-662 are studied in the tutorial course and verses 663-1419 are studied in the main course.


Objectives

The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the Euripides' work, especially Medea, a play that has influenced ancient and modern literature.


Prerequisites

No prerequisite.


Syllabus

Through this course, we attempt a philological, historical and anthropological approach to Euripides' work, espesially to Medea, the primary text of the course.
