Radiology

Knowledge of the basic imaging findings in common disease and understanding the implementation of modern radiology in the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of the patient in the hospital as well as in primary care.

Objectives

By the end of the teaching unit of radiology the student will gain knowledge and dexterities which will help him: • Putting in hierarchy by organ and disease –which examination is best for imaging common diseases • Knowledge of main imaging findings in each disease. • Τη γνώση των κύριων απεικονιστικών ευρημάτων σε κάθε νόσημα. • Correlation between imaging findings and the pathogenesis of disease. • Linking imaging findings with the signs and symptoms of disease. • The main therapeutic implementations of interventional radiology/neuroradiology • The main indications and methods of radiotherapy

Prerequisites

Pathophysiology. Pathologic Anatomy. Radiological Anatomy.

Syllabus

The teaching units are comprised of: • The main pathologic findings by system approach [CNS – respiratory system- GI system- heart and vessels-musculoskeletal-urogenital] • Focus on the main imaging findings of the most common diseases • Differential diagnosis of main diseases by system • Interventional radiology/neuroradiology – indications and techniques of diagnostic and therapeutical interventional radiology with emphasis in their main and more common applications in clinical praxis. • Emergency radiology (diagnostic and therapeutic problems) • Modern imaging methods and their implementation in clinical praxis (CT angiography, MRI angiography, DWI, MR spectroscopy) • Basic indications for radiotherapy • Basic imaging methods used in oncology (diagnosis and therapeutic response) • Basic principles of radiation protection and impact of ionizing radiation in humans
