DATABASES


The course Databases examines the fundamentals of modern database management systems (DBMS) and also aims to the practical familiarization of students on real database environments.


Objectives

The aim is to introduce students to basic concepts of a DB and become familiar with the process of creating a database. They should also understand the meaning of the restrictions and their application in modifying the data of the database. Finally acquire fluency in use of basic commands of the SQL language through a real environment DB.

Syllabus

Database Environment. Development process of the database. Model Entity-Relationship (ER). Logical Database Design and the Relational Model Database. Integrity constraints. Transforming ER diagram to relational database schema. Acts update databases. Database Languages. Relational algebra. Relational calculus. The SQL as a data manipulation language: questions, views, information statements. Introduction to organize files and index structures.
