Geographic Information Systems in Applied Geology


The course of Geographic Information Systems in Applied Geology is instructed as elective one in the fall semester in the Department of Geοlogy of the University of Patras.


Objectives

Stundents' familiarity with the basic principles of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing and the presentation of their uses in Applied Geology.


Prerequisites

Remote Sensing: Principles, digital image analysis and applications / G. Aim. Skianis, K. G. Nikolakopoulos and D. A. Vaiopoulos.


Syllabus

Part A: Introductory concepts of GIS. Part B: Image Classification. Part C: Projection systems. Part D: Mapping using satellite data and GIS, digitization and correction.
