Qualitative methodology of research in teaching mathematics


In this course, the delimitation of the Teaching of Mathematics as a research field is taking place. Key issues, theoretical frameworks and the dominant orientations of research in the field of Teaching of Mathematics are discussed. General research methodology issues such as those related to: a) research approaches, b) construction of research tools, c) sampling and d) patterns of quantitative and qualitative data analysis are analyzed. Still, the main research areas and their respective subjects and methodology are presented. Finally, students are required to write a scientific paper, for which, it is preceded: a) study of articles and discussing questions on them in the direction that has been developed in the respective subjects, b) construction of a small research tool, test and evaluation, c) study relevant articles, planning and organization of research, data collection and analysis.
