The course focus on issues areas which are influenced by the modern globalization process which day by day are becoming important . As a consequence all these issues and dynamics have been includedin the current agenda of the foreign policy of a “small/medium” country like Greece .
Technological and Didactical Innovations: Virtual Reality Emmanuel Fokides - Undergraduate - (A+) School of Primary Education, Aegean University The course examines how advanced ICT applications are used in the educational process. Specifically, it deals with 3D graphics, multiuser virtual environments and with the educational uses of Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality is a technological development that significantly affects the ways we can enhance the learning process. The syllabus aims in the development of an in-depth understanding in the ways this can be achieved. The subject is approached both theoretically and practically. The major learning theories are analyzed, various types of software for the development of 3D applications is presented and examples of 3D educational applications are given. In the practical part, by using a relatively simple to use software, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences while developing simple Virtual Reality educational applications.
Greek-Turkish Relations Panayotis Tsakonas - Undergraduate - (A-) Dept of Mediterranean Studies, Aegean University The course provides a broad overview of historical, theoretical, and empirical approaches to Greek-Turkish relations. More specifically, a series of issues are analysed and discussed concerning, inter alia, the agenda of the Greek-Turkish conflict as it evolved since the mid-1970s, the political and strategic parameters of the Greek-Turkish confrontation (through the use of relevant methodological and theoretical tools), the economic aspect of Greek-Turkish relations, the Greek-Turkish arms-race and the United States and Russia's policies as well as those of the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance vis-à-vis Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. Particular emphasis is put on the evolution of Greek-Turkish relations after the critical EU summits in Helsinki in December 1999 and in Brussels in December 2004 as well as on the prospects for the transformation of the long-standing conflict between the two neighboring countries towards a more cooperative relationship. Emphasis in the seminar rests on reading and critical discussion of the relevant literature, the development of the participants’ analytical skills, and learning to do effective oral presentations.
European Integration and Globalization [open] Sotiris Ntalis - Undergraduate - (A-) Dept of Mediterranean Studies, Aegean University The European Integration process is undoubtedly a top political and economic project which beyond its geopolitical significance, raises some key questions regarding its nature and perspective. In the context of the course "European Integration and Globalization" we will study the European initiatives aimed towards a secure Europe in a better world. We will also examine the Treaty of Lisbon, whose purpose is to improve the structure and function of the EU and to strengthen its position in the international scene. The EU is now better equipped in order to meet the expectations for resolving issues such as energy, climate change and immigration. The proposed bilbiography will be supplemented during the course by relevant articles. Both the bibliography and the articles will support the preparation of the work/essays which will be presented during the course.
