Rural and Local Development


The current course aims at an understanding of the philosophy of Local Development as well as the space in which it takes place. In particular, the course deals with common efforts that take place within a particular community in order to improve the living and working conditions. During the first modules, a review of the history of greek local development is made, while strategies and methods of local development are analyzed. The basic concepts analyzed in this course include participatory process, governance, and voluntarism. Moreover, the course deals with planning bottom up local development initiatives in order to the quality of life in rural areas along with the future of community actions.
