History of the Architecture II


During the course, the subjects are developed according to the following structure: • Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque in Italy. • Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque in the rest of Europe. • The return to classicism. • The Architecture of the 19th century, subjects related to the Revolutionary architecture, Romantic Classicism, the Historicism, Eclecticism, works of Engineers, School of Chicago and the Art Nouveau architecture. • Architecture for the period 1900-1940 , where subjects, related to searches of architecture until 1920, the "Viennese School", the German contribution, Perret and the evolution of classical rationality, the faculty of Glasgow, European expressionism, the Bauhaus, the De Stijl and Esprit Nouveau, are analyzed. Architecture for the period 1940-1990.


Objectives

The aim of the course is acquaintance with architecture from the Renaissance to the first half of the 20th century. Architectural design is examined in the context of social and political structures that characterize each era. Particular emphasis is given to the processes and parameters that mark cultural changes and the way in which they are registered in architecture. Particular emphasis is also given to the history of international architecture of the 18th, 19th and 20th century. The general approach is thematic and comparative. A special chapter of the course relates to the emergence of "international style" and the crisis of modern architectural movement. The under analysis subjects discuss aesthetic techniques and construction parameters.
