History of modern Greek literature: Poetry I


The course is intended to examine the history of Hellenic Greek poetry, starting from the epic of Digenis Akritis (10th century) and ending with the poetry of the “generation of K.G. Karyotakis”, thus approximately at the end of the third decade of the 20th century.


Objectives

Cultivation of the students' critical thinking, learning of the methods of approach of literary texts, understanding of the historical multi-level nature of literature.

Schedule of lectures 1st The erotic poems of Cyprus. Apokopos. Choruses of the tragedies of Cretan Renaissance. 2d Erotokritos. The poetic production of the 18th century. 3d Prosolomian poets. Introduction to the poetry of Dionysios Solomos 4th Solomos and the Heptanesian School. 5th The poetry of Andreas Kalvos. 6th First Athenian School. The exosolomist poets Aristotelis Valaoritis and Andreas Laskaratos. 7th Kostis Palamas and the Generation of 1880. 8th Firts Greek symbolist poets. 9th C.P.Cavafy 10th The poets of 1910: Sikelianos, Varnalis, Kazantzakis etc. 11th, 12th The Genearation of 1920.
