Themes in Science Education


The course introduces the students to basic issues and concepts of Science Education. Particularly: 1. Teaching the concepts of flotation and sinking in kindergarten pupils 2. Learning the cycle of water in nature 3. Didactic approach to the features of air and air pollution 4. Didactic approach to the traditional and modern ways of producing commodities in connection with the human needs 5.Didactic approach to fundamental concepts, e.g. space, time, object, causality 6. Intercultural approaches of an issue 7. Study of the teachers’ and the pupils’ roles during Science Education teaching and Environmental Education 8. Study of the procedures for collaborative learning in the Physics course 9.Historical and philosophical dimensions of an issue in Science Education 10. The nature of science 11. Activity Theory in Formal and Informal Science Education 12. Light and Sustainability.


Objectives

Goal/ Aims of the course • Full study of various issues in Science Education and knowledge of the ways for achieving a didactic intervention in the kindergarten Outcomes • Students ought to process an issue following the steps below: 1. Study of the difficulties that young children face, regarding the understanding of science concepts 2. Suggest partial activities 3. Choose the appropriate didactic tools 4. Create full sequences of activities or projects.

Students must have attended the courses: • Science Education in Early Childhood 1 • Science Education in Early Childhood 2.
