Ecology and management of rivers and lakes.


Objectives

Aims: a) In gaining knowledge of the structure and functioning of river and lake ecosystems focusing on hydromorphological, physico-chemical and especially biological elements for the assessment and monitoring of the ecological quality of surface waters according to the Directive (2000/60 / EC) which aims at the protection of waters and their integrated management. b) In the public awareness concerning the protection and management of inland aquatic ecosystems, c) the acquisition of competency in: using field instruments-sampling equipment, sampling, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic macroinvertebrates and fish identification, the use of biotic indices and of specialized software for statistical processing (Primer, Canoco), d) the ability to access the electronic library of AUTH and to use foreign literature, for editing, authoring and presenting of individual or team essays related to the subject matters.
