Health and Safety at Work


The course contains a) the basic subjects related to the work accidents (individual protection, precaution and prevention measures, accident statistics, ventilation, lighting and noise at work places. b) special issues of work safety concerning the speciality of environmental engineer, such as safety measures at Chemical labs, and waste management facilities, legislation for dangerous waste transportation c) the relevant legislation of the above mentioned subjects


Objectives

Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this module the student will be able to: 1. to apply the legislation of Health and Safety Work in workplace, in particular across technical facilities such as ventilation and lighting , prevention measures and techniques etc 2. to apply the learnings of managing hazardous and toxic substances at chemical or similar labs etc 3. to collect and evaluate accidents statistical data and to calculate the relevant indexes

Organisation of work safety. Healthy and comfortable conditions of work. Human relations while working. Health and safety at toxic or contaminated work environment. Exposure limits, symptoms and prevention of occupational disease contagion in waste management facilities. Legislation of Health - Safety and work accidents. Basic techniques of Health – Safety organisation in industry. Confrontation and prevention of work accidents. Legislation, statistics, and Associations relevant to health - safety and accidents.
