Mechanisms for Quality of Services in Networks


This course is taught as a core course of the the Applications and Foundations of Computer Science direction, during the first semester of the Post-graduate Programme «Computer Science and Technology», at the Computer Engineering and Informatics Dept, University of Patras. The subjects of the course are the mechanisms and technologies used to provide (guaranteed) Quality of service in computer networks.


Objectives

Familiarization with the basic concepts and characteristics of (assured) QoS provisioning in computer networks, Understanding of the mechanisms and technologies used for providing QoS in computer networks, Understanding of the two basic models used to provide (assured) QoS on the Internet, their roles and comparative advantages and disadvantages, Understanding how to deal with the subject of providing (assured) QoS at the application level and the related protocols, Knowledge of the structure of the cost of providing services and their pricing, in connection with the provision of QoS in computer networks, Understanding the role of Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
