Business Statistics


The purpose of the course is to understand the basic concepts of Statistics, and the application of statistical analysis methods in various fields with emphasis in Economy.


Objectives

• The objective is to understand basic concepts of business statistics. • Upon completion of the course the students will: 1. be able to apply statistical methods in analysis and data processing. 2. acquire experience in research methodology. 3. be able to use basic methods of statistical analysis in various application fields.

Syllabus

1. Basic concepts: descriptive - inferential statistics, variable scales, variable types, research types 2. Uni-dimensional data: frequency distributions, positional measures, variance measures, Lorenz curve, Gini coefficient 3. Multidimensional data: contingency table, scatter diagram, correlation coefficients, linear regression 4. Ratios: proportional numbers, price indices 5. Probabilities: random experiments, probabilities definitions and axioms, probability properties, conditional probability, independence
